I am Ukrainian-Canadian living in Toronto.

My cat Dina has been with our little family since 1997.  She is a stunning tuxedo cat with a human-like personality.

Dina loves  to spend time with my daughter and I  (on her own terms, of course) while we:

  • cook
  • plant /water flowers on the balcony
  • read
  • practice / teach  Salsa
  • entertain
  • watch TV
  • exercise

I bet she has a lot to say about all the activities she observes so I’ll try to capture these moments and share them with you.

It’s great to have different customs – the more, the merrier.

I am a Texan and you are a Canadian by choice. I am a Texas because I didn’t have a choice but I have chosen to remain here. I don’t like change, etc. However, I admire individuals who have moved to other places and love the places they now call home.

PS I like your blog. Nice.

    • The Kat and The Falling Leaves January 7, 2013 at 4:45 pm #

First few years here were challenging – trying to learn a new language, going to school and working at the same time, making new friends. It got better with time 🙂
Thank you for reading my blog!

HI. I am interested in vintage Urkrainain beaded blouses. If you know of anyone in the Toronoto community that has one for sale, please let me know. The new ones made by your aunt are also amazing. Can you email pictures and prices of some she has for sale (jthomas333@att.net). Thanks and good luck. Lise from California

      • The Kat and The Falling Leaves January 22, 2013 at 4:52 pm #

Hello Lise, thank you for the comment. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone in Toronto who’s selling beaded blouses. How soon do you need them? I will only see my aunt in April; she’s in her 70s and not computer proficient.

Thank you for dropping by to Jericho777’s Blog and leaving a thumbs up on many of my posts! It’s nice to know that another Canadian is reading them!
I have Ukrainian in me also…from my mother’s side. I wish we had been taught the language as now the older generation is passing on and us younger ones have nothing to show of our heritage. So sad really.
Keep up the great work here on your blog! I like it lots! 🙂

    • The Kat and The Falling Leaves January 22, 2013 at 5:11 pm #

Thank you for your kind words!

It’s definitely not easy to maintain your heritage in a different culture. Language is the first thing that’s getting forgotten; I find that people tend to observe some of their customs and prepare traditional foods. I had a coworker of Ukrainian descent and she commented that she feels sad she didn’t learn the language.

Your articles raising some serious issues – I enjoy reading it. Keep posting!
